Can anyone recommend a data recovery service in New York City?

Q. I am looking for a good data recovery service (preferably in Manhattan) that is neither wildly expensive (preferably below $400), that will not destroy my hard drive. I've heard that bad data recovery services can actually make it impossible for you to ever get your data back. I don't want to lose my data to inexperienced people. Thanks for any advice.

Also, if there is a company that is really good and affordable that I can mail my Hard Drive to, then that might work too.

Thanks!

A. You might want to consider this alternative to having someone else do the work:
If you've got a lot of valuable files that must be recovered, have a look @ 'SpinRite' from GRC.
Does total disk maintenance; checks cable interfaces; many deep disk checks, recovers data & fixes HDD errors; etc.
THE industry standard.
About $90 US; money back if not satisfied.
Money back if not satisfied.
Google for reviews.
Well worth the money.

Works on Mac drives: use Spinrite first, then migrate drive & use the Mac recovery utility on the repaired data.
Does not work with newer "solid state" drives.

Is it possible to recover data from a macbook that wont start?
Q. My mac's still under warranty but I don't want to pay for data recovery. Is there any way I can do it myself?

A. There's no reason to assume that there is any damage to the hard drive just because the computer won't boot. There could be some other hardware failure that didn't affect the hard drive.

Boot from a LiveCD and see if the internal HD mounts. If it does, then you've probably got some other hardware failure.

If you don't have an optical drive, you could boot from an external hard drive with a usable OS on it and then try to mount the internal HD.

how do you become a professional data recovery expert?
Q. What courses should be followed?
Are there certifications?
Is this possible to achieve without actually working for a large data recovery company?
