Can a data recovery firm recover wiped data after a guttman?

Q. If i was to perform a DOD Wash or a GuttMan wash, is any of the data recoverable even if sent to a data recovery firm? Ive seen some software that claim to be able to get data back even after wiping the free space with DOD and NSA but is this actually true? What is the best way to get rid of data that you no longer need and don't want to fall into the wrong hands?

A. You myt have to physically disable the hard drive cos no matter ow u delete, tis a matter of time b4 sum pc genius extract the info on it...

I accidentally "shift deleted" some important data from my PC. Is it possible to recover them?
Q. I also found out some data recovery softwares to download, but is it just too late now that my files are gone?

A. It's not to late as long as your data has not been written over. A 'Shift + Delete' only bypasses the recycle bin, the data is still on your hard drive only not recognized by your O.S.

I reccommend Recuva (pronounced "recover"), it is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

There are two kinds of people: those who have experienced data loss, and those who will. Remember the 3 rules of computing. 1) Back up 2) Back up 3) Back up.

How much does it cost to recover about 150GB of data from a hard drive that is malfunctioning?
Q. I have a Seagate 300GB hard drive, recently my PC stopped recognizing it and it made a strange grinding noise when it was on. I haven't got the first clue on how to access the drive. I heard data recovery was outrageously priced. But I'm just trying to get a ball park figure.

A. Yes it usually is very expensive. But try installing this drive as a second drive on another system, see if it recognized and see if you can access it there. Also, search teh web, there are some tools availabe that can do magic stuff with defective drives. Good luck!
