Help! My computer won't boot?

Q. I'll try to add as much detail as possible.

My desktop had hdd partitions on it.
Last night, while transfering some space from one partition to another, my computer froze, closing everything (including Partition Magic{Partition Program})

Next thing i know, my partition of the hdd is gone, so i open partition magic and it says my partition is a PqRP(Power Quest Repair Partition i think...) format.

From there, i am not able to convert it back to the normal NTFS format without losing everything!!!

So i used my friend Google to find an anwer.
It sent me to a forum with a program that i can use to recover the partition. I think the program was called TestDesk.

This is where all the BIG problems started.

I ran TestDesk, followed the instructions and then once i finished it, it told me to reboot the computer. So i did.

When the computer turned back on, a message came up saying:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

Not knowing what to do, i rebooted the computer again, only to return to the same screen every reboot.

Thinking about solutions, i put in the Windows XP disc that came with the computer and wound up at the windows xp install screen with three options:

Install windows XP (I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS AS I WILL LOSE EVERYTHING)
Enter recovery console
Exit

I entered recovery console and found heaps of commands and options.
Using google, i tried to find some solutions, all with no luck.

I have tried using chkdisk and fixmbr with the one option and also tried fifixboot on all the individual drives with still no luck.

That is about the whole problem.
I don't want to lose all the data i have on the computer (i will only do it as a LAST resort)
Help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

A. One option is to remove your HD and use someones laptop/desktop to retrieve your stored data. An item that comes to mind is
http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail.php?type=family&id=39
and its quite useful in my line of work.

If not, you can always connect it directly as a slave drive on another computer or install a 2nd hard drive on your computer with windows xp on it and use the original drive as a slave drive and then access your data.

Either way will retrieve your data as long as the partition hasn't be lost...if it has been lost, then your out of luck unless you know of some data retrial program that reads 1s and 0s and does most of the work for you but generally...they cost hundreds of dollars for that kind of work.

When buying the download of an EA game, what happens if...?
Q. Hi everyone,

As you've probably guessed, I'm thinking of downloading The Sims 3 for my Macbook. My only concern is that I've been told there may be something wrong with my Macbook's hard drive.

What I'm wondering is, when you buy an EA game through "download only" instead of buying a physical copy, can you use your serial number to re-download the game onto a different computer or hard drive if the first one dies?

Any info would be appreciated!

A. This might be a quest asked of EA Directly...but it's been my experience that once you have the Serial key, you should be able to download the game again, since you don't have a physical disc to store.

that said, I suggest you get your macbook harddrive fixed before you download and isntall anything else, the sims included. You are risking loosing all your data...permanently...unless you want to shell out an ungodly amount of money to a data recovery place.

designe network for new office?
Q. I have project for my network class and I'm done with half of the first part, but then I didn't understand what exactly they are asking in questions 1,2 and 3 can someone please explain it don't answer the question just explain what should I do and in question 2 how to present the plan should I present it in ( table, ppt or words)

introduction
you have been asked to commence a planning for the move to a new office there are no equipment requirement yet because your company is planning on redesigning its network with the latest tools and techniques.

Q1_your boss is impressed with the latest mobile phone technology and you have been requested to provide advice if you could use this as an alterative for internet access and computer for work what advice would you give your boss

Q2_the owner have also requested that you present a brief plan to them as to how any newly acquired computer equipment will be safely installed and maintained in the future this should include a plan to ensure that the all potential computing and communications equipment is kept up to date and secure against physical and virtual threats

Q3_include a plan for replacement of equipment on a regular cycle

A. ok so just because you said DON'T ANSWER:D :

i guess in the first question , you are asked to find a solution which is compatible with the needs about how would the network ( in particular Internet Access) work with a mobile solution... i don't know how much you know about network , but if that means about mobile IP and communication there are many solutions...

in Second question , clearly , you are requested to search about Security contents, including attacks your network may encounter , viruses, worms , your plan about Data Loss , your recovery plan , ... there are many things about security and as you said do not answer i just guide .

in the third question i did not get exactly what it wants , but i think it may relate to your hardware and software analysis , and your back up schemes...the way of presentation about quest 2 is something optional everywhere has its own rules , i usually present in ppt.

Good luck;)
