Q. I'm curious as to why most of the hard drives my employer sends out to Ontrack comes back with unrecoverable data. With a high evaluation cost it seems easier just to charge a quick $100 and say it can't be recovered than actually attempting to recover data.
A. We have used Ontract many times with excellent results. The cost is high but the results are amazing.
How much does it cost to recover hard drive data?

A. Hi..just wait and think..
don't waste money more to do this simple job.
if your hard disk has physical failures like loss of pins then you can go for recovering with the technicians for pay..
if it has logical problems like formatted or sudden ir response you can try connecting your hard disk as a secondary disk to another system and recover it with a thirdparty softwares...... there are many such softwares like that..try it and then you can go for technicians

How can get files from a dead laptop?
Q. my toshiba laptop is not working any more. and i didn't backup the files on time, i only have some files saved.
so is there anyone to take out the hard drive and do something about? i can think of a few options.
1. send it to those data recovery service places, but it might cost a lot, and i don't feel comfortable letting them checking out my personal files.
2. put the hard drive in an external hard drive, but toshiba people told me that it is not possible for this particlar hard drive, i am not sure.
3. buy a used toshiba laptop, and just take out that hard drive, and use this old hard drive instead.
so can someone give me an idea as how I can do this? thanks.

A. If the Mother board is dead, pull the hard drive, you can purchase a USB to IDE controller, mount the drive via USB.
