Can you see the contents of an external hard drive after its been unplugged?
Q. I had an external hard drive loaded onto my computer, but it dropped and died. I want to review what was on there (filenames, not contents, obviously) to see if its worth sending to data recovery.

Is there some way to see that? The folders were visible on my computer at one time, and I haven't shut it off or cleared the RAM. Any ideas?

Thanks, I'd really appreciate it.

A. with compupic pro i am being able to do that
but i erases after you disconnect a drive, as an usb memory pof a hard drive.
And cenatek's ramdisk is able to load all of a program into memory, that it means that kind of things its possible.
The problem is how to take data bak from memory to hard disk. Its like when you rise the buffer on winamp, you place a cd, load the winamp buffer (eg. 55000kb) and then expulse the cd and the music still is playing on winamp.
I was looking many time ago a software like that and nothing appears yet.
Someone must be wonking on it at any place but at least someone is doing it, im sorry i can't help more.

How do you fix an external hard drive?
Q. My wife bought an external hard drive. No sooner did she offload all of her files onto it did the thing geek. Now, when you connect it to another computer, nothing activates. How do you fix the device and how do you recover the files? If we have to pay for data recovery, how much should we expect to pay?

A. Fixing a Ext. HDD is done useing Computer Management-Disk Management..and Windows[tm]..//
===
I have found the manufacturer's utilites to be out-dated(they are useless)..Windows[tm]..is the most current application..
===
There are P-ata Drives..and..there are S-ata Drives..IDE Drives from my experiance are P-ata-Drives..
===
Fixing your HDD/
..
Useinfg a Logical Drive..single partition..NTFS File System..from the Computer Management-Disk Management-program..
40-GB HDD's are usually NTFS File Systems..less would find themselves in the FAT32 File System..
..
DELETE the Partiton..re-create the partition..useing Logical drive..NTFS(over 40-GBs)..and Default-allocation..
===
I use 80-GBs for a System C:/drive..adding in..external HDD's//for stroage drives..USB 2.0//or//internal storage is S-ata..MOLEX-connector//I use a Seagate-1TB..drive.
===
Basically..use a Single partition..useing FOLDER'S..not multiple partitions(they fail)..
===
I use the Belkin Product for a EXT-Enclosure--/..
===
Use your REAR-->>USB..PORT..
===
The rest is practice.
