Q. I had a virus crash and the system partition lost the format. I did a search with File scavenger using another PC, it found a lot of files which I want to recover (it found more than 12 GB), but it also says that many sectors are bad, and I can't finish the search and recover the files. Tried it 2 times.
Should I try it with another program or what?
Thanks

A. MASTER UNERASER:
Just because a file isnât visible in Windows Explorer doesnât mean that it no longer exists. Master Uneraser analyses the hard drive at a low level, scanning the space to uncover files that have been deleted. Its Explorer-style display lets you see both deleted and current files. You can analyse a drive simply by clicking its icon on the toolbar and itâs possible to recover a file quickly with the Unerase icon.
All of the popular file systems are supported and it works with removable media including memory cards. Master Uneraser is designed to work with Vista but is also compatible with Windows XP and 2000. The program installs as a 30-day trial, but to register for the full version only costs US$29.95 (around £15) which isnât a lot given the powerful nature of the program.
It can be downloaded from:

SMART DATA RECOVERY:
Smart Data Recovery is a tool for Windows that supports both FAT and NTFS file systems. The software can easily recover data from hard drives, digital cameras and any type of removable storage media including flash drives, USB drives, memory sticks and diskettes. The program has a neat easy-to-use interface and can recover any deleted files, including MS Office documents, photos, MP3 and zip files, even if the partition table of the disk is lost.
It can be downloaded from:

UNDELETE PLUS (FREE):
Undelete Plus is a free versatile program that will work with all the latest versions of Windows and can handle both FAT and NTFS file systems. Itâs equally at home with removable media too so you can recover files from memory cards and flash drives. Tick the box to select a drive and click Start Scan to analyse the drive. This can take quite a while to complete on a large drive.
When itâs completed the scan the right-hand pane shows a list of the files available for recovery. You can sort these into file types by selecting from the pane on the left. Select a location to save the undeleted files at the bottom of the screen. You have the option of retaining the original folder structure if youâre recovering entire folders.
It can be downloaded from:

Two Computer Questions: Clearing files and Removing Info?
Q. I have 2 questions please I hope someone can give some help me out.
1. I want to know where all in the computer do you go to clear files and junk to keep computer running smoothly. I go into my temporary internet files and clear out along with cookies every few days. Where would all the junk be that is clogging up my computer? I also run adaware just about every day.
2. I have a couple CPU's I'm giving away but I want ALL of my information wiped out. How do I do that?
Thanks!

A. Hi, I can answer your questions (please know the software I suggest is completely free unlike other suggestions here).
1) CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. CCleaner also fixes your registry. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware.

2) If you would like to erase and wipe all information from your harddrive so you can give away, I reccommend you use Active@ KillDisk. This powerful and compact DOS software allows you to destroy all data on hard and floppy drives completely, excluding any possibility of future recovery of deleted files and folders. This is security software for unrecoverable data elimination for any computer capable of booting in DOS mode from floppy drive. It uses access to the drive's data on a physical level via BIOS bypassing logical drive structure organization, thus it does not matter operating systems and file systems located on the machine, it can be DOS, Windows 95 / 98, Windows NT / 2000 / XP, Linux, Unix for PC. Active@ KillDisk conforms to US Department of Defense clearing and sanitizing standard DoD 5220.22-M. You can be sure that once you clean up with Active@ KillDisk, sensitive information is purged out forever. We highly recommend you to run this FREE utility for the hard and floppy drives you want to dispose of, recycle, re-use, sell or donate to somebody.
Please note: If the CIA or FBI is after you, destroy the hard drive. It is possible to recover data even if it has been erased and written over many times.
