Is it better to use data recovery softwares or should directly consult data recovery companies?

Q. There are many data recovery companies that offers expensive data recovery services and there are various freeware and affordable softwares in the net. What should a layman prefer?

A. the first thing you should do is to stop putting any new data on your target drive.
then you can try some freeware to see if the data you wanted is still in. and preview to check the recovery quality.
at last you can buy a full version (of course the best on in your opinion after comparing) to recover your data.
Here I recommend one recovery software that I used few days ago.It is on sale-50% discount

If you can not see your data through freeware, you don't need buy a full version. Going to consult data recovery companies is recommended.

Does anyone know a freeware that can do data/partition recovery?
Q. While shrinking my Vista partition, another partition containing data is damaged. The NTFS file system now became RAW. Is there a data/partition recovery software that can change RAW file system back to NTFS? I know Easeus has one product called Data Recovery Wizard that can have the job done. But the $70 price tag is too expensive for me. Hope there is a freeware somewhere that can also do the same job. Thanks.

A. not sure but ive seen somethhing out there.. check cnet.com/downloads and filehippo.com
and i think there is one . free

I accidentally "shift deleted" some important data from my PC. Is it possible to recover them?
Q. I also found out some data recovery softwares to download, but is it just too late now that my files are gone?

A. It's not to late as long as your data has not been written over. A 'Shift + Delete' only bypasses the recycle bin, the data is still on your hard drive only not recognized by your O.S.

I reccommend Recuva (pronounced "recover"), it is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

There are two kinds of people: those who have experienced data loss, and those who will. Remember the 3 rules of computing. 1) Back up 2) Back up 3) Back up.
