Q. There are so many that come up when I search on google, I just want to make sure I'm sending my hard drive off to the best one. There is also one here in the Bay Area (called bay area recovery or something) does anyone know if that's any good?
A. If you feel adventurous, try removing the hard drive, placing it in a plastic freezer bag, and then freezing it in a freezer for at least 24 hours. Be prepared with an external storage device of some sort (thumb drive, USB->IDE adapter with hard drive, etc.), then replace the now chilled hard drive in your laptop.
Cross your fingers and switch on laptop. It just may return to life long enough for you to copy your data unto an external backup device.
Chances that this will work: 50%
(It's the first procedure that data recovery shops will try, in any case.)

Anyone know a cheap Data Recovery in the Bay Area?
Q. I kinda broke my USB storage drive and the Best Buy person told me I could still get my data back, but it would be like $500 dollars at Best Buy. So he told me to look around for a cheaper place so i could save money. Any suggestions? My last resort would be to go back to Best Buy. Thanks for your help. :)
A. If best buy is providing you the physical drive reovery @$500 please grab it at the first go as I've heard of physical data recovery being the most expensive ones used Stellar Phoenix data recovery they cost me around $1500 for the recovery but the services were undoubtedly nice
where can I find inexpensive hard drive data recovery in the San Francisco Bay Area?
Q.
A. Be careful when dealing with cheaper data recovery 'labs'. Most of those places will do far more harm than good. That said there are three major data recovery labs in the US and they are Drivesavers, Gillware and OnTrack. If someone else has mucked with the drive before they receive it, it will cost twice as much -- if they can recover anything. These labs will evaluate the drive for free before beginning any work. Of the three listed Gillware is known to be the best priced.
