How can I make a recovery disk for XP?

Q. I want to make a recovery disk but I don't know how. HELP, I HAVE A MILLION VIRUSES!

A. 1: you have to either find the one that came with the comp to reboot xp (you loose all your data on it) or buy a new one.

2:you can get some virus scan but it probably wont help

3: just get a boot disk for linux (im a game disigner so i know what im talking about here. i sware by linux) you can download it off the internet. then boot up linux.

side notes: any widnows viruses cant work on linux because the protocalls are compleatly different. even the administration system is compleat opposites. linux is almost 100% safe i say almost because theres are under 1000 viruses for linux but they are just proof of consept viruses. theres over 1.5 milion major viruses for windows not including ad or spyware. linux cant get compleatly destroyed like windows can. nothing is hosted under the root administration so it cant just corrupt al your files like in windows. if you have important files you can just parsion your harddrive and use the free space remaining for the linux so you can still acess the important windows files.

How should I change my computer's settings after I add memory to it?
Q. I have an HP Compaq laptop using Windows XP. It is an older machine, but I like it very much.
I recently increased its memory from 500M to 2G. The computer detects the new memory, so I am confident that I installed it correctly, but I am a little disappointed because I am not noticing very much difference in the computer's performance.
What modifications, if any, can I make to my settings to take best advantage of the new memory and improve the computer's performance?

A. Hello, Your computer may need general maintenance, this should help.

Delete all unwanted files and free Disk Space. Make sure at least 15% of your disk place should be empty. The computer needs this space...

Check for viruses and other malware, clean them if found. Scan you computer with up to date anti virus program.

Clean fan with compressed air, and make sure it has air flow.

Click start>Run.. Type msconfig>enter>Start Up. Uncheck the boxes for the programs that you think you may not use often

Increase the RAM of your system. If you have vista or windows 7 you could use ram boost.

Back up your data and make sure you have a set of recovery/reinstall disks in case your hard drive goes out...
Down load and install this program it is free http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner this is a good cleaner...

If I have Windows Xp Pro installed on a laptop can I go back to vista without a recovery disc?
Q. I have an HP dv6000 running Windows XP OEM, the machine previously came with Vista Home Basic pre-installed but I did not like Vista. The laptop didn't come with a recovery disc for Vista. Can I use the Vista Recovery Disc thats available for free online? I believe Microsft has a site for it.

A. As long as you didn't erase the Recovery Partition...

Try this one first, if it doesn't fix it try the next two...
1. Reboot, and repeatedly press F10 at the HP logo until the recovery screen appears.
2. When the recovery screen appears, press "Next" and then "Yes" to perform a non-destructive recovery (all data saved). After the recovery is finished, the laptop will reboot.

Or to perform a destructive recovery, (***This will erase all your unsaved data!***)
Click "Advanced" and then "Yes".
After the recovery is finished, the laptop will reboot.

Or
Reboot, and repeatedly press F11. Follow on screen prompts.
