A. Try to restore a backed up System State (in Windows 2000/XP/2003) or a ERD (in NT 4.0) in which you do remember the password. The problem with doing so is that you'll probably lose all of the recently add users and groups, and all the changed passwords for all of your users since the last backup was made.
A third method might be to install a parallel operating system on a different partition on the same computer, then use a simple trick to gain access to the old system. Read more about it on my Forgot the Administrator's Password? - Alternate Logon Trick article. For Office document password removal, you can also check our tutorials on Excel password recovery.
Note: If you are looking for password cracking tools that can be used for miscellaneous objectives such as password-protected PDF documents, zipped archives, Office documents, BIOS protection and so on then this pages is NOT for you. See some links at the bottom of this page for hints on where to find such tools, but I can tell you right away that Google might be a better choice for you.
Try using 3rd party tools that will enable you to reset the lost password and logon with a blank password.

Password Recovery Tools
Free Windows password-cracking tools are usually Linux boot disks that have NT file system (NTFS) drivers and software that will read the registry and rewrite the password hashes for any account including the Administrators. This process requires physical access to the console and an available floppy drive but it works like a charm! I've done it myself several times with no glitch or problem whatsoever.
Beware!!! Resetting a user's or administrator's password on some systems (like Windows XP) might cause data loss, especially EFS-encrypted files and saved passwords from within Internet Explorer. To protect yourself against EFS-encrypted files loss you should always export your Private and Public key, along with the keys for the Recovery Agent user. Please read more about EFS on my What's EFS? page. Out of the following list, the only tool that will no cause any harm to EFS-encrypted files on your hard disk is the Windows Password recovery system. Here are 5 of these tools:
Stellar Phoenix Password Recovery - Simple startup utility resets a forgotten admin or users' password using a familiar Windows-like program interface instead of command-line.
Password Kit - Top rated version of Passware's Password recovery app, supports Windows Vista and RAID/SCSI/SATA drives.
Petter Nordahl-Hagen's Offline NT Password & Registry Editor - A great boot CD/Floppy that can reset the local administrator's password.
Openwall's John the Ripper - Good boot floppy with cracking capabilities.
EBCD â Emergency Boot CD - Bootable CD, intended for system recovery in the case of software or hardware faults.
If you happen to know about other free tools please let me know.
Important note for Windows Vista users: At this time there is only one solution for Window Vista and that is Petter Nordahl-Hagen's Offline NT Password & Registry Editor
Note: These password resetting tools are usually good for local users on a stand alone computer. For Domain Admin password resetting procedures please see the Related Articles section at the bottom of this page. I'd like to put together all the info you have about these issues. If you have any tips, recommended links or any ideas about how to figure out a lost password - please e-mail me and I'll get back to you.
Windows Password recovery
www.loginrecovery.com This site provides a tool to recover lost Windows XP passwords. It works for administrator and user accounts, it doesn't change the password just tells you the old one. It works with encrypted files (EFS) and password hashes. It even works if no passwords at all are known for the machine (as long as you have another computer with internet access to view this website with). Author claims it also works with Windows NT and Windows Server 2003 and Windows Longhorn, but the BEST thing about it is the fact that it won't reset your passwords, but simply reveal them for you to remember and then use. Give it a try. The author would like to receive feedback. The fee for the service is very cheap, and is really just to cover server costs. Note: You'll need a blank floppy to run the process.
(NOTE) some of the information had to be removed, go to source for all the information
One other way to soulve this problen is to reinstall your operating system. Hope you got a Windows operating system disk with your laptop

A. You should try reinstalling your Windows, ON TOP OF THE OLD ONE, with no formatting. You would need to be able to boot it from a Recovery disk or CD (depending on your version) to be able to re-install.
The problem looks like, the hard drive cannot be recognised at all. So the normally useful suggestion of putting it as a slave drive is not going to work, either.
You need to repair the Master Boot Record on the drive, which is where codes for its internal layout/geometry are written. IF this is corrupted, but the disk not physically damaged, re-installing Windows MIGHT fix it.
If attempting to reinstall demands a new format or Fdisk or partitioning, DO NOT DO IT, as that will wipe out all the data you want to save. In this case, there are many good free utility programs available fix the MBR without a reformat. They are worth trying. If they report success, THEN you can re-install Windows without formatting (and losing everything).
The third one of these could read your disk for you, started from a floppy disk, once you get a drive letter available (without needing your Windows going again).

These things are a bit technical to use, so it would be best to rthoroughly read the instructions a few times before using them. Or get a computer-savvy person to help.
You can use them just to look what the trouble is, and do the job with the one you can understand best.
This is a recovery tool especially designed for recovering graphics file formats.

Once you DO get some life into your drive, THEN you need to couple it with another one, to copy your data to. If the Windows is NOT working, you won't have access to a USB drive, so you'd need to make it slave to a working drive in another machine. This cannot damage the other machine.

Two years into the current recession and latest data confirms it, does it not?
Q. July lost 131k jobs and the unemployment rate stays at 9.5%. I find it funny how market analysts, money managers, ceo's, and reporters alike all put their own spin as if we "may" be headed for a "double-dip" or the American "recovery" continues to weaken, or this may have stoked fears the country could still "fall back" into a recession.
Many people agree with me saying the economy never "got out" of the current recession in the first place. A lot of companies have been reporting profits in "earnings season" - but are higher net profits generated due to lower work force, lower inventory orders, inflated pricing, and other cost-cutting measures?
With consumer confidence down considerably and commodities like oil and wheat still up, are we in for the next big bubble deflationary period, most likely in the form of goods deflation?

A. I think both Hong Kong and US are experiencing the twin evil of stagflation based on the two country and a tiny city are practicing the macro economics of Keynesian approach. The outstanding part of the macro economic policy is put the Monetary Policy in the top priority. It is simply because for the Democratic president of Barack Obama and the Hong Kong lame duck incumbent chief executive, Donald Tsang Yum-kuen have the absolute power in manipulating all money matters in terms of exchange rate, interest rate, stock share prices and, particularly has the power of supplying the money to sustain the wars, financial bail outs and stupid stimulus program in which Obama Administration will send you a check of US $ 500 dollars. First of all, we all should know Uncle Sam is already bankrupt with a total debt of more than 69 trillion US dollars ( two years ago).

US government has spent more than 40% of the printed money on wars and military services worldwide. Can Uncle Sam continues to afford US 10 billion dollars a day for just the Iraq war?
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Clearing%20House%20TV%20show%20the%20cost%20of%20the%20Iraq%20war
Based on the above-noted information, Barack Obama must stop the dreadful and expensive wars in Iraq and Afghanistan sooner. All the stationed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan should withdraw as soon as possible. US must downsize the military operatios in the non war zones. Why those stationed in the non war zones are entitled for vacations all year round?
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=The%20total%20cost%20of%20the%20US%20miltary%20spending
I personally and many Hong Kong scholars and good economists think that Hong Kong must downsize the overall overpaid civic body by axing at least 23,000 civic jobs, reduce the overall overpaid civic and good for nothing officials' salaries by at least 6% to as much as 60% off. Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is needed to cut at least 30% of overpaid and extra staffs. Hong Kong government incomes are relied on land sales at extra high price, duty taxes in Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Horse Racing and wagering for soccer games results in the HK Jockey club.
Regardless of what the US political leader has promised, fufill or not, Americans must learn how to live and work for the less. Hong Kong has the worst poor and rich gap in Asia where two millions out of the seven millions are living under the poverty with very severe wage disparities with overpaid officials and civil servants and only one half of the civil servants are working in their daily working routines. The average income per capita is boasted at HK $ 56,000 per month. The minimum wage law can't reach the basic needs of the many of asking only HK $ 33/hour. Our good for nothing Hong Kong chief executive is making HK $ 430,000 per month. Should Donald Tsang Yum-kuen deserve more than HK $ 1,200 per hour? That's why Hong Kong is not my kind of town.
