folders on my hard drive have been converted to files?

Q. I have a western digital external 1TB usb drive. A load of my folders on the drive have been converted to unknown files that i can't open.

i ran scandisk, but it didnt help.
I have data recovery software, but it would take weeks to scan and recover that much data.

is there a 3rd party scandisk that fixes this sort of thing? or should i send the drive back to WD while its still under warrenty?

A. Send the drive back. The master boot record is shot. Using a product such as Wipe to completely clean the drive might fix it, but if it is still under warranty and you still have the box you should send it back.

How to restore deleted data on an external hard disk?
Q. My external Hardisk Western Digital is connected my friend's Mac. And then he clicked back up the external, and when the Mac ask whether you want to erase the data inside , he clicked yes.
Omg , and my data is all lost now.
Is there any way to recover the data?

A. Chances are that if you dont save anything new to the computer, you can recover your deleted files.
Download recover software, recommended one is asoftech photo recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)

Install and open asoftech photo recovery on a Windows machine, select your drive, and click 'Start' button.

What's the best external hard drive out there that will not lose any personal data whatsoever?
Q. I'm running out of space on my pc and I need to know what's the best external hard drive that is portable, has lots of memory, cheap, will always work, and will not lose any personal data from the external hard drive. Some of the known external hard drives are like seagate free agent, transcend iomega, western digital, and lacie. If you know any RELIABLE known external hard drives, please write a well structured detail description of it. Thank you.

A. Check out the ioSafe Solo: http://www.iosafe.com/3

This external hard drive is virtually indestructible - it's fireproof, waterproof, and can be bolted down to prevent theft. Despite backup efforts, if you have a house fire or flood, you're pretty much hooped with a typical hard drive. With the ioSafe, in addition to its disaster-proof features, your data is safe. If something does happen to your hard drive, you can send it back to the company - at their expense - and they will attempt to recover your data and, if they can't, will spend up to $1000 for a third-party recovery service to do it. Once your data is recovered, ioSafe will send it back to you, along with a new hard drive.

I just got an ioSafe Solo and I love it. I'm extremely happy with the services and features this baby offers. :-)

Good luck!
