What causes an XD memory card to become corrupted?
Q. I recently lost a great amount of data from my XD memory card upon using it with a recently purchased 23-in-1 card reader. The device uploaded only 5 of my 100+ photos, the others were nowhere to be found, not even on the camera's available memory. Now, the camera will not even recognize the card.
I've been informed that the card is probably corrupted. What could have done this? What would cause a memory card to become corrupted, just out of curiosity? Thanks.

The most common way is this:
â¢Continually shooting and deleting, shooting and deleting images when the card becomes full.
ALWAYS format the card before use and again after you have safely copied all the images to the computer. When formatting the card, use the format feature in the menu of the camera ... NOT the computer.
If for some reason all the images that you think are on your card were not copied to your computer, you will want to buy an image recovery program from Lexar or San Disk before you format the xD card. In the mean time, buy a second card. Right now 8 GB SDHC cards are $14, so my guess is a 2 GB xD card will be affordable.
