A. Make sure you don't use that hard drive until you get the software required to recover your data. Despite the fact that people are telling you that your data is permanently lost, formatting a hard drive essentially puts it into a state where it appears to be completely empty when really all of your data is still on the hard drive.
Think of it like a cassette tape. If you wish to record over something that's already been recorded onto it, you simply rewind it and start recording new stuff over the old stuff that was on there at the time. When you format a hard drive, it does something similar to rewinding a cassette tape. You may think it's empty but everything is still there.
I use a program called MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition. It provides you with tools to recover corrupted partitions, re-size them, format them and anything else you can think of, including recovering data on a formatted drive.
I used this program to recover a corrupted partition on my external hard drive and within minutes I was able to use my hard drive again. I even tested out the recovery tool that claims to recover files from a formatted drive, and I was able to recover 100% of the files I had on the drive (I simply copied all of my files from my computer hard drive to a secondary hard drive, formatted it and used the recovery tool).
If you have a lot of important data that you need off of that hard drive, I recommend that you give this program a try. The Home Edition gives you all the features that you would need and is completely free. It's not a trial or demo, and you don't need to purchase anything.

A. easeus has some recovery software. i really like their partition master and todo backup. oh, and limit what you're doing on your computer because everytime you write to the drive, more of what was on there get's erased
