A. Use a Linux Live CD.
how do you recover files from a physical drive?
Q. I tried a couple of software programs and none of them scan the unmounted physical drive that I have except Paretologic data recovery. I am able to find the files that I deleted with that one but I'm only using the trial version so I can't recover anything. The drive that the files are on had a copy of linux installed on it but I can't seem to locate the drive in linux because it's unmounted. Is there anyway to fix this so I can get my files back?
A. Don't worry. Here is an excellent freeware which will definitely solve your problem:
Recover Files 2
Recoverable files are listed on a simple spreadsheet with Path, Status, Size, Date Created, and Date Modified information for each. It's incredibly easy to set filters to list only the files you want to see. The app lists categories of file types to further help filtering the file list. Recovery is the easiest step. Simply check each file to attempt to recover and press a single button.
