How do I restore damaged files from a memory card?

Q. I erased all of my pictures from my memory card while inside of my canon camera. Fortunately I was able to retrieve a fourth of them with recovery software (card recovery) . I however, was not able to open all of the pictures; because they are corrupted per my computer. Is there any way that I may ever restore these pictures?

A. First please do not take any new photo before recovery to avoid data overwriting.
Then you can download trial version from Internet. you can check if the photos you need are recoverable or not. If yes, you can use the full version, and compare prices and qualities. If these photos are very important to you, Personally I suggest you should use a professional software for security.

Unfortunately I also suffered similar experience.
I download the trial version from
http://www.data-recovery-utilities.com/photo-recovery/
you can preview all the recoverable photos from Preview Window, then you can evaluate the quality before you buy.
It helps me get all my precious photos back with high quality.
Now it is on sale.
You can have a try

Good luck to you

How can i fix a formatted memory card with out eraising any file music or pictures?
Q. I have these extremely important pictures on my memory card and the computer tells me i have to format that memory card, so how can i make it so it wont eraise nothig?

A. Hi Jonathon,

IMPORTANT, DO NOT FORMAT the card!! Do not be fooled by answers that tell you the data cannot be recovered. If you have already formatted the card STOP right now and remove the card from the reader. Even formatted cards can usually have the data recovered.

When the computer tells you to do that it is because their is some kind of interface problem between the computer and the card. But formatting the card makes the computer believe that there is NO data on the card. To preserve your pictures you should stop using the card for anything and locate or buy a good file/data recovery program. Personally, I use San Disk Rescue Pro and it usually does an excellent job recovering files, but it is a commercial program and usually need to be purchased. You can probably get it at an office supply store or most stores that sell computer products like Best Buy, Wal Mart, etc.

You can search the net for freeware but I will not recommend anything that is freeware because there are so many scams and counterfeit programs being offered and rescue programs are one of the most common sources of malicious code, scams, spoofs and viruses. People frequently get cheated because they are so anxious to save their data. But so long as you do not use the card it is very unlikely that anything not already damaged will be lost. And good rescue programs can usually recover a remarkable amount of missing or damaged information.

I would also recommend getting a multi-function card reader if you don't already have one. Just be sure that it will read all or most of the card types you expect to use.

It sounds like you are using one card to store multiple types of information. This is usually not a good idea because each type of data wants to organize a card to optimize the performance for it to access data (this is often called an "Access Method" by software developers) and to do this they try to write a set of instructions at the beginning of the card/disk to tell their software how the card is organized. When you use multiple data types (photos, music, games, etc.) and try to access something with another device, program or computer there is a good possibility that the Operating System will get confused by the multiple files and get read problems.

Hope that helps. Email me if you need more specific instructions.

How do I recover pictures that I accidentally deleted off my memory card?
Q. My friend accidentally deleted all my pitures off my memory card. There were some REALLY important pictures on it that i did not have a chance to upload onto my computer. I tried many recovery programs but none of them recovered anywhere close toall of the pictures. Also, they were all really expensive. I'm looking for a really good program that i can use, that is free. If the program coast money I don't care. Those pictures were really important to me. If you can help that would be AMAZING.
thanks

A. Hey, easy, Lily. It's highly possible to recover your deleted pictures from memory card. When you delete photos, the photo itself isn't deleted, just the index entry that says where the data for those files is located. The space containing the deleted photos is also now marked as free space so it is available to the system for any new files to be written there instead. So it is very, very IMPORTANT to not take any more pictures to the camera memory card from which you want to get back deleted photos.

I know a free download program called Wondershare Photo Recovery. You can use this program to see if it can find your lost pictures first, then decide whether to buy. If it can't find them you don't have to pay for that.

Here is the steps you can refer:
1. Download and install this program from http://www.disk-utilities.com/photo-recovery/index.html.
2. With the memory card inserted to the computer. Under "My Computer", you may find the drive letter showed as usually G: or H:.
3. Start Wondershare Photo Recovery and select the drive letter that assigned to memory card, click "Next".
4. Now the scanning process starts automatically to help you get back deleted pictures. You will then get a list of all recoverable photos.
5. Select the photos you want and click "Next", then select a folder to store the recovered photos. Click "Next" and you can get back deleted pictures from camera memory card successfully.
