Q. I have a customer that has Point of Sale database that uses SQL. Unfortunately for whatever reason the scheduled backup was not happening.
Their Raid needed rebuilt and after the rebuild all data was reverted back to June,2011. We had backups of Quickbooks and antoher database software they use, so those are fine, but this one, there is nothing.
I am familiar with data recovery software that can recover lost of deleted files, but what about files that have been simply overwritten?

A. If they printed out the data somewhere, they can hire someone to type it in again. Because it's POS, there might be printed register tapes. Otherwise they have lost the data, and have become an excellent example of why everyone should not only do backups, but should test to find out if the backups are working.
