How do you delete ALL the information off a dell latitude laptop?

Q. i have a dell latitude laptop and i wanna delete all the information off of it because it is my dads old one. how do you delete ALL the information??

A. The easiest and best way is to reinstall Windows from a recovery disk.

If it's really sensitive or embarassing data then there is a free eraser program called Heidi eraser. It writes and rewrites 1s and 0s on the drive. See

if the data is nothing to worry about then just use recovery disk

How do you format or wipe the memory on a windows vista dell computer?
Q. I have a dell laptop on windows vista I want to know how to format the memory and restore it to factory settings so I can sell it without my info getting out.

A. Firstly, just to correct you, memory and hard drive space are different. Memory pertains to the RAM and it is erased the moment power is turned off. What you are really talking about is the hard drive space or the storage which saves and retains information even if the power is off.

Assuming the recovery program in the special partition is still available and working, do the following steps:
1. Turn on or reboot/restart the computer.
2. As the computer starts, press <F8> until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.
3. Press the <Down Arrow> key to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>.
4. Specify the language settings, and then click Next.
5. Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
6. Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
7. In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
8. Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box.
9. Click Next and the computer will be restored to the default factory configuration.
10. When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

If that worked, even if the computer is reset to factory defaults, chances are the data that used to be in the hard drive can still be recovered using 3rd party software like Recuva even if they have been erased already but not overwritten by newer data. To make sure they can no longer be recovered run this to securely wipe the free space:

Take note that you should only wipe the free space, not the whole hard drive as you don't want to erase the OS also.

One more thing, CCleaner comes from the same company that created Recuva:

How can i make recovery disc to my laptop or my desktop pc?
Q. hi guys
How can i make bootable recovery cd or dvd disc my laptop or my desktop pc which includes my c: drive my factory setting my drivers and software and my complete window all complete setup.
is that possible so pls tell me it will very helpful for me.
i have norton ghost 14 but i can't make recovery disc.
pls tell me complete solution for that. urgent
thanks in advance.

A. First, what kind of computer do you have - Dell and HP have on their websites instructions on how to make recovery disks that will reinstall the computer's original software as the factory did it.

I don't have Norton Ghost running - I use Acronis True Image - but I assume the Norton Ghost software can be booted from the CD, so that the Windows software does not load.

From this boot, you should be able to make a set of disks that contain the image of your drive - for any computer. When it becomes necessary to reinstall the image, you boot with the Ghost CD and follow the screens to get the data from the image disks back onto your computer.

Wish I could help you more.
