Q. I backed up my old hard drive onto a Maxtor external hard drive, because I needed to reformat my old hard drive. When I went to delete the old partition on my old hard drive, I still had the external hard drive hooked up to the computer. Needless to say, I accidentally deleted the partition of the external hard drive instead, removing all my needed info. Since I haven't overwritten anything yet, is it still possible to retrieve ALL my old information on that hard drive? If so, does anybody know a good data recovery service in Southern California? I live in Huntington Beach, California. Please-please-please tell me I can salvage this!

Q. Can anyone please help me? :( So recently my Sony VAIO e-series laptop crashed and a black screen that says- No Operating System Found appeared. And when I tried turning the laptop off and waited for it to load, it just wouldn't turn on, and I even tried to go on to safe mode but that took like 3 hrs and still it was on the same screen not going. And so I decided to bring it to Best Buy to see if they can backup my files but they gave me a call the next day saying my hardrive is really damaged or something. And so now I don't know what to do at all. They asked me if I just wanted to forget about lost files and get a new hard drive or what not and I told them no. Please help me, I'm only 15 so it would be nice for a very thorough explanation. I'm very desparate for my files-which are hundreds and hundreds of family pictures that's gonna be gone. I have nothing else on my laptop I'm in need of, only my pictures. I've tried asking other areas but no response yet. I heard about taking the cover off the computer, but idk if it refers to laptops too...and taking out the hard drive etc.
It sucks because this is our 2nd laptop and only been used for 5 months...recently new. I don't recommen the Sony VAIO e-series or any series. I could be wrong but its my opinion.

A. There is a good chance that your files are still there. Something like this happened to me recently and I was able to get my information back, even though Windows could not even get into safe mode. To get my files back I followed this guide:
