Q. I live in Sydney, AU and I have an external harddrive that I've been using for the past few years to store photos (2005-2009), and a lot of songs. Two days ago I accidently dropped it onto its side, and when I plugged it into my computer, the computer detected it for a while and I was able to recover my resume. However, when I tried to take photos and save them onto my actual computer, the external harddrive became inaccessible. Is there a place in Sydney that would be able to recover my harddrive's memory? I don't care if they can't fix my actual harddrive, I just want all the data back because I know it's still there and I think the only problem is the head/motor. The harddrive brand is Seagate, and I've tried contacting their free toll number only to be hung up on by their machines !
1. How much am I looking at paying?
2. Can anyone refer any places in Syd for me?

A. Download and install free undelete programs (links provided below) like PC Inspectorâs File Recovery, TestDisk & PhotoRec 6.3, Undelete Plus, FreeUndelete, Recuva, etc. I've used PC Inspector and was successful in recovering the files that were deleted.
Just keep in mind that you must not install these programs or configure it to put temporary and recoverd files in the drive you want to recover files from.
If all else fails and the data are really important to you, contact a trusted data recovery firms like Ontrack which will charge you fees but will give desirable results.

Did the media under-report the grim jobless numbers out this week?
Q. or was it too busy distracting us with the celebrities so we wouldn't notice the largest tax increase in American history being voted on.
see the article from Reuters
"US job picture dims, overshadows improved GDP data

USA-ECONOMY/ (WRAPUP 3):WRAPUP 3-US job picture dims, overshadows improved GDP data"

The article:
" WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fresh signs of weakness in the U.S. job market Thursday underlined the strains on a recession-struck U.S. economy that contracted slightly less in the first quarter than previously thought.
The Labor Department said the number of U.S. workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits last week unexpectedly jumped by 15,000 to a higher-than-forecast, seasonally adjusted 627,000. Extended claims -- those lasting more than a week -- also were higher.
That outweighed a separate Commerce Department report showing that gross domestic product, which measures total output within U.S. borders, contracted at a 5.5 percent annual rate in the first quarter instead of the previously reported 5.7 percent.
...
CONSUMERS STILL HURTING
One of the longer-term issues is what will generate recovery. Continuing layoffs and problems in finding new jobs are shrinking incomes while weaker housing and equity markets sap wealth and make it unlikely that consumers will be able to provide much spending power.
Consumer spending, which fuels two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, increased only at a 1.4 percent rate instead of the 1.5 percent previously estimated.
Reflecting the weak pace of global economic activity, exports fell at a 30.6 percent rate in the first quarter instead of the 28.7 percent estimated a month ago. That was the steepest drop in foreign sales in 40 years. Imports dropped at a 36.4 percent rate, the steepest since the summer of 1947.
Overall business investment plunged at a record 37.3 percent rate during the first quarter, while spending on home building fell 38.8 percent for its biggest quarterly tumble since early 1980.
Nonetheless, corporate profits grew at a 1.4 percent rate during the first quarter, slightly better than the 1.1 percent rise estimated a month ago, after falling 10.7 percent in the final three months of last year. (Additional reporting by Alister Bull; Editing by Neil Stempleman)"

Did you hear these job stats reported in the TV media or newspaper. If so, which one please.
@Phillip. I'm very interest to know which media organization spewed out that propaganda - 6 million!! Even the Labor Dept. stats are more honest than that - 14.5 million as at May 2009.

.
and the Labor Dept. Stats are misleading because they only count the people receiving benefits. For the actual number, you must use the stats that the business class uses for making business decision.

A. They HAVE to hide the stats from here on most likely in order to cover up the fact that we are in a Depression! You know it, they know it, I know it, but they don't want EVERYONE to know it ... so they have to "lose" certain data and then maybe find it in a week or a month or a year.
The govt bailouts only sealed the coffin that much tighter. This downturn is almost guaranteed now to last til 2019, Ron Paul would most likely project 2025. This one is bad ... all we can do now is re-create everything. The USA is going to have to take over some WORLD market and produce it here and hire LOTS of unemployed workers. GE could make windmills ... GM can make electric cars and sell them globally. Aptera can try to up production on their ever popular 300 mpg vehicle, or their electric one. If Obama can get the new grid going we can put a string of GE Turbines and Windmills and Solar Panels together and start exporting power to Canada and Mexico.
We need to find something for Exxon since Petrobras in South America will have 3 MAJOR oil pumping AND refinery Oil Rigs online by the end of 2010 or mid-2011. They ordered them 2 years ago and they are due to be shipped in 2010. These 3 rigs will allow them to produce enough oil and fuel for the ENTIRE WORLD and they ordered 15 NEW Oil Tankers to deliver the product. The Brazilian gov't owns Petrobras and they seem to be ONE govt who has their act together, thanks to their President, a very shrewd dude.
Exxon can make solar panels like British Petroleum, BUT they need to make them in THIS country. IF Exxon helped by backing Aptera and then made the world's finest solar panels at awesomely low prices, they could re-create themselves while maintaining their original goal statement ... providing energy to the world. They could do solar and natural gas and electric vehicles. The Exxon 3000 NP for example, the first Nuclear Powered Vehicle. Sorry ... got carried away.
BUt we need to act fast ... things are NOT improving as much as we need to get through the next inevitable downturn. The time to act is NOW !
Peace
