How do i recover pictures that i accidently deleted on my phone?

Is there a way to restore erased data on a cell phone?
Q. I have an LG Octane cell phone by verizon and i was messing around deleting old messages and i was thinking wouldn't it be cool to read my old messages that i deleted a long time ago? There must be a way right? I mean they just don't disappear after you delete them! They have to go somewhere also if there is a way to find them can i also restore other erased data too, such as pictures and videos? Is there like a hard-drive that stores deleted data or something? If anyone is a really good computer/technology wizard can you please tell me how to do this? It has to be possible! (Sorry if this is such a weird question i'm just very curious)
A. You can connect phone's memory card to computer with a card reader (get one from ebay if you haven't already have one), then download a file recovery program
