Q. i dont want to reformat it, i have a lot of files inside, and i need it. all my baby sister's videos and pictures are inside, before and after her cleft lip surgery, it's really important. you guys have any idea wether i can still get my files back or not?
A. Sounds like the file structure got corrupt.
First, I would try to see if Linux can see it;
Download Knoppix
http://www.knoppix.net/get.php
It is an ISO file and needs to be burned to CD as one.
then boot off CD and see if you see your external drive.
If you do..copy all to your ard drive.
It's a long shot but worth a try.
If no good..
consider contacting a professional data recovery service such as CBL, DriveSavers, ESS, Kroll Ontrack and so forth.
It can be pretty expensive though.

A. Computer forensics The simple definition of Computer Forensics, "... is the use of specialized techniques for recovery, authentication, and analysis of electronic data when a case involves issues relating to reconstruction of computer usage, examination of residual data, authentication of data by technical analysis or explanation of technical features of data and computer usage. Computer forensics requires specialized expertise that goes beyond normal data collection and preservation techniques available to end-users or system support personnel." (Kroll-OnTrack). This process often involves investigating computer systems to determine whether they are or have been used for illegal or unauthorized activities. Mostly, computer forensics experts investigate data storage devices, either fixed like hard disks or removable like compact disks and solid state devices. Computer forensics experts:
Identify sources of documentary or other digital evidence.
Preserve the evidence.
Analyze the evidence.
Present the findings.
Computer forensics is done in a fashion that adheres to the standards of evidence that are admissible in a court of law. Thus, computer forensics must be techno-legal in nature rather than purely technical or purely legal.
Sure ...there are courses available in Texas...

Hard drive will not Spin at all, is it dead and will it ever spin again ?
Q. I took the hard drive out of my laptop and it doesn't spin, I tried the usb to sata and nothing happened...Is there anything i can do to try to get it to SPIN again ? I need to get the photos off the hard drive..Thanks so much!!
A. If your hard drive is frozen, like you're describing, then it will be very expensive indeed to get the photos off the drive. You may also just have connected it wrong if it worked in the laptop - did you ever consider that. Otherwise, you're looking at a job for data recovery specialists. If you're in the US, you might try Kroll Ontrack, http://www.krollontrack.com/
