How do you recover data from an external hd drive which my OS stop detecting, the drive physically appears ok.?

Q. I guess it happened due to connecting and disconneting without safely removing the hard drive, the drive letter doesn't appear any more so i can't use software recovery tools asking for you to select the drive letter. About freezing i read it should be used only when the drive is not spinning. The hard disk is small and powered by the usb cable and is not physically damaged.

A. i assume you are using windows because of your story and i have seen this problem before the only way i have been able to solve a problem like this is plugging it into a mac which i have copy all of the files then reformat as fat32 then put the information back onto the drive and it is good as new but it doesn't work well if you dont have a mac

Can data deleted through router settings be recovered?
Q. I was setting up my network storage through the router settings in my firefox browser. I accidentally deleted a folder with allot of vital documents and need to recover them. I spoke with linksys through online chat and they told me that there is no way to recover it since it was deleted through the router settings. I also tried to use a hard drive recovery tool, but the files didn't show up. Anyone got ideas?

A. That's horrible to hear. I know the feeling, that's happened to me quite a few times. In all honesty, I don't think there's a way to recover that kind of data. It's most likely all gone. Sorry for the bad news. I would just get backup software to prevent that from happening again.

I don't know if this will work on a mac, to recover files > from BIOS you can boot portable linux mint 9 from a 2 GIG USB pen drive.

Download and install Unetbootin: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ software, click drop down box and download Linux mint 9 to same place on pen drive, In the unetbooting GUI top java script box select the ISO you have just downloaded>OK>reboot.
You will now have an operating system that you can boot form your USB pen to access all you files.
Boot your computer press f2, f8, f10 or f11 to go into BIOS and tell BIOS to boot from external device, save changes.
Make sure the USB pen drive is plugged in.
You will be able to access your files and save them to another device.
