If my computer wont let me use restore or recovery how can i fix it?

Q. When I use the restore function, no matter whitch date I select it says it cant use that date. When I first got my computer, it let me push F10 and recover my computer but now it wont let me. I must have done something awful to my computer.

A. Why are you trying to recover it with system restore?

Try running the anti-virus/malware series of checks. I use three programs in conjunction:

AVG Free: http://www.grisoft.cz/filedir/inst/avg75free_476a1048.exe
Windows Defender:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en
Spybot
http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd14.exe

If those do not work, and you're still dead set on fixing things...you should probably back up your essential data and look into re-installing Windows.

Good luck!

how to remove viruses with avast free?
Q. Or is this not possible with the free version? Because I have two threats that are High but the apply button isnt highlighted so i cant click it. Does this mean I cant do anything because its a free version? Also do the archive is packed stuff in the results really matter?

A. 1. Try to scan and to remove them in Safe Mode with Network. Update the antivirus prior to this. (Turn off your PC, wait for 2 minutes, the reboot, and hit several times persistently the F8 key until the Bios menu appears: select with the arrow keys Safe Mode with Network. Click OK to the dialog box appearing later. Then run a scan and delete.

2. Perform a System Restore. Now, turn off your system restore (Right-click on My Computer in Start menu or on your Desktop â Properties â System Restore tab â Tick 'Turn off System Restore' â Apply â OK). Now do another full scan and delete any infected files.

3. I know Boot scan doesn't always work from experience! Now get another program such as Malwarebytes (shareware) or Emsisoft (Commercial trial):

âhttp://www.filehippo.com/download_emsisoft_anti_malware/download/0bc71ee1daa5c3dcf057ca658f3c89db/
âhttp://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-security/articles/59799.aspx (download Rkill and read this tutorial to help you to kill the process).
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe
Boot on Safe Mode as before, update the program and perform a full scan. Move to quarantine or even delete the files. But make sure they are not Windows genuine files included in them. You can check the list with http://www,bleepingcomputer.com Register and post it.

4. Check your Connection: Start â Settings â Control panel â Internet options â Connection tab â Click on Settings next to Private network and Dial-up â Make sure that no boxes have been ticked. Uncheck them if necessary unless you normally use a Dial up â Ok â Back in the dialog box of Internet Options: click on LAN settings button â Check mark 'Automatically detect settings' â OK â Apply â OK. That should help too!

â You normally can delete viruses. But... I used to have Avast too, as I got infected with Relevant Knowledge, I realised that the spyware actually managed to disable my antivirus! :-@ I had to remove every key manually thanks to another free virus scan that detected them. But I forgot to turn off my System Restore, so it had infected the memory. And when I did a System Restore, and turned off my PC, the following day, I couldn't even boot! I was forced to reformat! Since then I went back to Avira. No more problem! (http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/download/ca3a3704cd56a07f9dc06f6c139b55c3/)
Look at this post to see that we are not the only victims cof Avast incompetence! http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53502.0

â I would advice you a better defence against malwares: Sandboxie which is free. Sandboxie runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer. And it can run on Inter Explorer, your web browser, your programs, etc. It is very practical and small too. As if you were to be infected, you can kill the process safely and delete it instead of recovering it! So run it in Sandboxie, to see if it is clean! Then recover it or delete it if it is infected! Your computer is never infected itself! Information and download:

How to recover my locked and hidden folders?
Q. The problem is, I locked my folders using the freeware instant lock v2.5 and then when i tried to open them it said unlock error. Now i have no idea how to recover those folders. I tried many data recovery programs but no use. uninstalling instant lock has no effect. it doest delete the folders they are still hidden and locked. Someone please help me on this
thnx

A. Here is some solutions from their web site.

- "Error in unlock module" or "permission denied" error

Your Windows NTFS settings might be wrong. Your current Windows registry or NTFS settings does not allow your user to access. First you must be an administrator. Second your user and system user should have full access rights to all your NTFS disks and all registry keys. Use regedit.exe Permissions for registry and for NTFS disks: drive properties security tab to give these necessary access rights. Also Vista users should select XP compatibility mode from i-lock.exe's properties
