should i jailbreak my ipod touch 3rd generation?

Q. i was wondering if i should and what do i get out of it if i do? are all the apps on the app store free? and what are 3rd party apps? ve also heard that some people can connect to the wifi at their house when the ipod is jailbroken, meaning that they have internet everywhere. is this true? thanks in advance.

A. Jailbreaking is the process where your disable the signature checks on the iPhone OS. It allows you to install unauthorized apps and let apps have root (administrator) permission.

To get apps for free you get Installous. It's an IPA Installer for your iPod touch and also you'll need AppSync which allows you to sync cracked apps (in other words apps downloaded for free) from your PC and to your PC from your iPod touch and iPhone. You can also get on it on any web browser through apptrackr.org
When you jailbreak you usually get either Cydia or Rock nowadays. Jailbreaking without any App Stores that will take advantage of it is pointless.

Cydia is a App Store that gets apps from repositories in other words websites hosting apps. Cydia comes preloaded with some repositories to get Installous you'll need to add the repository hosting it (which in this case is http://cydia.hackulo.us)

Also you can't really get WiFi anywhere. That isn't possible unless you have a MiFi which is another story. It's like those broadband cards but the MiFi acts as a wireless 3G broadband router sharing internet to 5 WiFi devices. It's usually small (3.5-inches) and uses 3G Broadband from cellular networks (the same as the internet service used on phones) so you can have internet. But of course it requires monthly payments and whatsoever.

Some 3rd Party apps that are great include WinterBoard which allows you to apply themes on your iPod touch (including enable wallpaper on the Home Screen), Installous, SpringBoard, MxTube which allows you to save YouTube videos for offline viewing, Mobile Theater which allows you to download any movies, videos, or TV shows for free and use for offline viewing. Other things include downloading themes.

Note that Cydia is kind of slow since it refreshes everytime it does something data-related like downloading something. I recommend downloading themes and everything through your computer using an app called Cyder. It will download Debian files (.deb) which are the stuff you download off Cydia. It's located in the archives folder. To put these files to your iPod touch just use iPhoneBrowser then place it at var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall (If it's not there just create it). Also note that blackra1n doesn't install the required a2fc service required so you can use iPhoneBrowser. To get this a2fc service just search it up on Cydia. Install it and Done.

But also note that since you have the 3rd Generation iPod touch it will be required that you do a tethered jailbreak which means connecting to your computer everytime just to turn on your iPod touch if it shuts off whatsoever. OS 3.1.3 solutions won't work yet only OS 3.1.2 solutions which is blackra1n in this case for the iPod touch 3G. I don't recommend using PwnageTool or sn0wbreeze (they're not compatible anyways) since you need to jailbreak everytime just to turn on your iPod touch. PwnageTool/sn0wbreeze involves Restoring to a custom firmware which means you'll have to do that everytime (If PwnageToolo/sn0wbreeze was compatible) just to get to your usual "slide to unlock" screen. blackra1n just runs commands on a virtual Terminal, jailbreaks, and bypasses any security checks (which is the reason you use a tethered jailbreak)

Why do we need to use a tethered jailbreak?
The new iPod touch 3G's and some newer models of the iPhone 3GS's have a new "bootrom" installed which forces a signature check on startup (when the device turns on). If it detects anything altered in the iPhone OS it puts it in Recovery Mode (iTunes logo and USB Logo indicating Connect to iTunes) telling the user to connect to iTunes and Restore. To bypass this you'll need somekind of application to put commands into to bypass this signature checks. Since you can't really run anything on startup of the device (The checks go first before any processes start running and the checks are forced from hardware so it's not easy to bypass those checks alone on the device itself) you'll use a computer with a virtual Terminal that you can do all the bypassing and stuff on. Blackra1n does all that stuff automatically for you.

Tried to restore a jailbroken iphone in itunes?
Q. I have an iphone 3g unlocked, and jailbroken, tried to restore it in itunes, and it got bricked.
How to fix this? And then after that so i dont fuck up, which tools to use again to jailbreak and unlock the iphone?

A. Step One: Reset
Most of the time it's as simple as resetting your device. Hold down the power button and the home button simultaneously for 5-10 seconds (it can vary depending on the state of your device). Eventually you should see the Apple logo and iDevice will boot as normal. If not, try releasing both buttons and turning on your device as normal. As a precaution, plug your device into your computer and do a full restore in iTunes.

How to Restore
If you've never restored an iDevice before it's pretty easy. Just click on its name in the lefthand column in iTunes, go to the Summary section (if it's not already selected by default), and click the Restore button. This will download the latest available version of iOS from iTunes and install it on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. iTunes will know what type of device you have and download the appropriate version. When it finishes, you'll be asked to restore from a previous backup (assuming you made oneâsomething you should be doing regularly) or set up your device as new. Assuming you have a backup, restore from it, then sync your device with iTunes when it finishes. Because a restore wipes out all data and an iTunes backup only retains settings, preferences, and other basic information, this sync can take quite awhileâespecially if you have a lot of music and movies. Be prepared to let your phone sync for as long as an hour. When it's done you should be back to normal again.

Step Two: Enter DFU Mode
When resetting doesn't do the trick, you need to tell your iDevice to go into DFU mode. This method should seem familiar if you've tried to jailbreak as DFU mode is generally necessary in the jailbreaking process as it's usually used for recovery purposes. You're going to need to disconnect it from power/your computer temporarily in order to do this, so be sure to let your device charge for 10-15 minutes beforehand.

When you're ready, here's what to do:

1.Presumably your device won't turn on or off, so let's first make sure it's off. Just like in the reset section, hold down the home and power buttons until your device shuts off.
2.Hold down the home button.
3.While still holding the home button, connect your iDevice to your computer. (The computer you use to sync with iTunes.)
4.When you see a screen with a USB cable and a picture of the iTunes icon, you can let go of the home button.
5.Restore your iDevice with iTunes using the restore instructions in the previous section.
That's one way to enter DFU mode that you can do while your device is still connected to your computer. You'll need a clock to help you count (don't count in your head!). Here are the steps:

1.Make sure your device is off.
2.Hold the power and home buttons for 10 seconds.
3.Release the power button but continue holding the home button for 10 more seconds.
4.Release the home button
5.Restore your iDevice with iTunes using the restore instructions in the previous section.
Hopefully one of these ways should make it possible to restore your device, but if not then move on to the next step.

i tried to jailbrake my ipod 4th generation and failed?
Q. yesterday i tried and jail brake my iPod touch 4th generation 8 gigabyte, but it did not seem to work. so i stopped and notice my apple apps were not working like safari calculator and etc. so i went into the setting on my iPod and reset the data but it did not work. so today i tried and restore it back to factory setting on iTunes but it said the device you are trying to connect can not be detected. what do i do now?? i tried it multiple times and still did not work. help please

A. dont listen to john, if u restore it to factory setting there will be no trace of you jailbreaking it.
You should have looked up the possible consequences of jailbreaking it. (i have mine jailbroken)
Anyways, to reset to recovery mode.
Turn your iPod off.
Connect your iPod Touch to your computer.
Switch your iPod on.
Hold down the âhomeâ and âsleep/wakeâ buttons together for 5 seconds until you see the Apple logo appear.
Let go of the âsleep/ wakeâ button but carry on holding the âhomeâ button. Now your iPod Touch should reboot and iTunes on your computer will see that the iPod is in recovery mode.
