A. You need to do a password recovery and you will need to answer a two questions.
You are asked for your birth date and the ZIP or postal code you have on file. You can use this link and click the Sign-In Problem page.
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/edit/id_password/edit-20.html
They will send the temporary password to your alternate e-mail address you have on file. If you don't have one on file you can use this link to inquire further on how to get your account.
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/edit/alternate_email/edit-21.html
Also, if you have a credit card on file then they can use that to verify you are who you say you are.
If you've ever used a credit card to purchase something with Yahoo! Wallet or have subscribed to a Yahoo! premium service, we should be able to verify your identity using one of those cards. We will not charge it.

How can emails and contacts be restored?
Q. I went to email today only to find all emails and contacts/trash/sent are all empty, also my son called to tell me that he recieved an email supposedly from me stating that I have been kidnapped in Spain asking for ransom. Has this happened to anyone and how can I get my data restored?
A. If the contents of the account were deleted, or the Address Book, act NOW! There is only 48 hours for recovery of the mail, and there are no guarantees. The Restore Help form depends on the mail you use.
Classic Mail:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mail_restore.html
Regular (Beta) Mail:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/mail_restore.html
OR: Click Contact Us on the Help page, and sign in. Click the Yahoo! Mail Restore Help Form and fill it out.
NOTE: That request will delete all e-mails in the Inbox since the 'Restore' date, so keep moving these to another folder, or forward to another e-mail address. (or read and delete.)
If you need to restore your Yahoo! Address Book (Contacts), please fill out the following restoration form and one of the Yahoo! Address Book agents will attempt to restore your Yahoo! Address Book. This is only possible for 10 days but is worth a try.
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/addressbook/ab_restore.html
or, click Help on the mail page, then Contact Customer Care. The Live Chat button takes a few seconds to show up, but it will. If not, wait and refresh the page.

Then, to regain control of your account ...
1. Check that the alternate e-mail address is still yours, under Options, Mail Options, Account Information, then change it! (so the hacker will not be notified of the change). Then change both your password AND your secret questions and answers. Make them unique and long, strong ones with mixed characters!
(*** Changing your password also deletes the cookie which apparently inserts that sly trojan address grabber. ***)
If you used this password for other accounts, change them too - make every one different. Make the password longer than 8 characters, with mixed symbols.
Usually, this is all you need to do, although mail will still be sent in the name of the old account for a while.
For a Yahoo account, you can change your password at https://edit.yahoo.com/config/change_pw. If you can no longer access your account, you can get a new password at https://edit.yahoo.com/forgotroot/.
If you still canât access your account after going through the âForgot Your Passwordâ process, you may contact the Customer Care team for assistance. Click Help, then Customer Care, then Live Chat - it make take a while, but a human answers! (If the page loads slowly, refresh it, or click the F5 key.) You will be asked several questions to verify that you are the owner of the account.
2. *** If spam mail was sent to any of your contacts, apologize, and notify all your contacts NOT to open short e-mails, especially those with no subject, and definitely not to click any links. Warn them to scan for malware too, just in case. Set up an alternate 'alias' account to use instead. This allows you to use a different address for sending, but still keep all saved mails and contacts and the first address active too for incoming mail. Your friends can trust this new address. (There is a choice of address in an arrow in the From: box.)

How do I change my birthday on my Yahoo profile?
Q. Cuz it says im 15 but im actually 16. If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!
A. See http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/profiles/profilecard/profcard-06.html and http://help.yahoo.com/tutorials/prof/prof/prof_start3.html for instruction.
If you are a teenager (i.e. using a non-adult Yahoo account), you can't display your age to other Y!Profile users, but you can change your birthday information. Note that age adjustments can only be made 35 days after a Yahoo! recovery data update process has been completed (http://ycorpblog.com/2009/04/14/a-24-hour-locksmith-for-your-yahoo-account/ ).
Basically, go to http://profiles.yahoo.com and click the "Edit Profile" link in your Profile card, if your account has been updated properly. The field for the birth year is to the left of the "Hide My Age" box. Then, click the "Save" button.
